Softball Recap: Six Straight Road Wins for Springfield

After losing to Lincoln the last time they met, Springfield decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Senators walked away with a 7-4 win over the Railsplitters on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 22, 2017, but that streak is no more.

Mia Volpert was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Pagliara, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Erin Stoops, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Springfield's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Springfield will be playing in front of their home fans against Sacred Heart-Griffin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lincoln, they will head out to face off against East Peoria at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
