Basketball Recap: Portola Extends Winning Streak to Four

Portola waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Hamilton Braves with a sharp 78-53 victory. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 23 points or more this season.

Portola was led to victory by Magnus Berg and Connor Sheridan. Berg almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine boards, while Sheridan dropped a double-double on 22 points and 19 rebounds. Berg is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 20 games he's played dating back to last season. Enrique Vargas was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points along with seven boards and five assists.

Portola was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hamilton only posted four assists.

When it comes to explaining why Hamilton lost, don't look at Case Porter. Despite the final result, he posted 25 points and six steals. Another player making a difference was Caden Stickney, who scored 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Portola has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Hamilton, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-9.

Portola has already played their next match, a 70-58 win against Maxwell on the 28th. As for Hamilton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-59 defeat against Quincy on the 28th.
