Basketball Recap: Balboa Comes Up Short

Balboa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 62-49 to the Zephyrhills Christian Academy Warriors. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bengals came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Warriors are ranked 134th).

Zephyrhills Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zoe Bone, who shot 60% from the field on her way to 16 points and seven assists. Bone continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Lily Deng was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.

Balboa's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Zephyrhills Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Balboa will take on Jordan Christian Prep in a holiday battle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bengals will be up against the Seahawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 54 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Zephyrhills Christian Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
