Basketball Recap: Loveland Find Success

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Loveland's strategy against Erie on Thursday. The Loveland Red Wolves came out on top against the Erie Tigers by a score of 47-40. That's more bragging rights for the Red Wolves, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Loveland had a senior duo take command as Zayne Desouza almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds and Mason Morris dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards. Desouza has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nic Rakowsky, who posted six points and nine rebounds.

Loveland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Erie's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Callen Gebhardt, who had seven points and seven boards. Christopher Smith was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Loveland's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Erie, they dropped their record down to 7-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Loveland will take on Windsor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Windsor has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Erie, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-42 defeat against Broomfield on the 24th.
