Softball Recap: Del Valle Cardinals vs. Lake Travis Cavaliers
Del Valle extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 12-12-1. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Travis Cavaliers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cavaliers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in March.
As for Lake Travis, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-13-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
For Lake Travis' part, Julianna Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Rodriguez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Smith was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Maddie Depa was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Coincidentally, Del Valle and Lake Travis will both be playing Dripping Springs the next time they take the field. The Cavaliers will head out to face the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Cardinals will host them at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
