Softball Recap: Melbourne's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

It was a good run, but Melbourne unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverside Rebels. The Bearkatz were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rebels apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2019.

Kallie Thornton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maggie Pierson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Melbourne's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Riverside, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-5.

Looking ahead, Melbourne will take on Salem at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Riverside, they will challenge Corning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
