The Granada Matadors will head out on the road to take on the Carondelet Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Granada has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Granada took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against California by a score of 6-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Kamryn Brannon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kallie Brannon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Madison Trindade also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Granada was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Carondelet fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Livermore on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 9-8. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Myleiana Lopez put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Reese Albano and Angela Gates did some serious damage despite the final result: Albano went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Gates went 4-for-5 with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Anna Gustafson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Granada's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Carondelet, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Granada skirted past Carondelet 3-1 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Matadors repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
