Baseball Recap: Melrose Golden Wildcats vs. Kirby Cougars

Melrose dropped their record down to 6-11 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Kirby Cougars, falling 13-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-12 back in March.
As for Kirby, they moved to 7-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
For Kirby's part, Elijah Cody was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Cody a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Brajan Chavarria and Andrew Orozco did most of the damage at the plate: Chavarria went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Orozco went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits Orozco has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Terrence Stephenson, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
As of now, neither Melrose nor Kirby have any future games scheduled.
