Basketball Recap: Savio Comes Up Short

Savio lost against Antonian Prep back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Savio Eagles were outmatched by the Antonian Prep Apaches and fell 100-48. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 972nd, while the Apaches are ranked 23rd).

Amare Guerra continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Antonian Prep, going 7 for 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 34 points and five steals. Guerra's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Edison Onwe, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Savio has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Antonian Prep, their victory was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 28-3.

Savio will face off against Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. As for Antonian Prep, they will take on St. Michael's at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Michael's knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 19 matchups -- so hopefully Antonian Prep likes a good challenge.
