Softball Game Preview: UMS-Wright Prep Bulldogs vs. Elberta Warriors

The UMS-Wright Prep Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Elberta Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Elberta will be up against a hot UMS-Wright Prep squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. UMS-Wright Prep's pitcher stepped up to hand Davidson a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight contests by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Trawick was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Emma Shepler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

UMS-Wright Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elberta). They blew past Rain 21-5 on Friday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Red Raiders recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Blakely Hooper, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ava Jennings, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

UMS-Wright Prep pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Elberta, their record now sits at 8-17.

UMS-Wright Prep suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to Elberta in their previous matchup back in March. Can UMS-Wright Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
