Softball Recap: Benton Rangers vs. Hamilton County Foxes

Benton had lost eight straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 7-18 to make it nine. They fell 11-8 to the Hamilton County Foxes. If the Rangers were looking for revenge after losing 20-9 to the Foxes when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jaycee Webb (2027) led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Thomas (2027), who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

As for Hamilton County, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-14 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On Hamilton County's side, Rayci Phelps made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Phelps posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trinity Boyd, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Addison Kelley was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Benton will host Herrin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hamilton County, they are taking a road trip to take on Carmi-White County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
