Basketball Game Preview: Cedar Valley Aviators vs. Wasatch Wasps

Cedar Valley is 0-4 against Wasatch since November of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Cedar Valley Aviators will face off against the Wasatch Wasps at 5:15 p.m. Cedar Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Cedar Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Timpview, who was ranked 15th at the time (Cedar Valley was ranked 19th). Cedar Valley managed a 58-52 win over Timpview on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Wasatch came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past the Thunderbirds with a 72-66 victory.

Wasatch's win came from a few key players Cedar Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Peyton Behnke, who posted 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Filifaiesea Liava'A, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 16 points.

Wasatch was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Cedar Valley's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. As for Wasatch, their record is now 12-2.

Cedar Valley couldn't quite finish off Wasatch when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 52-49. Can Cedar Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
