Football Game Preview: Odem Owls vs. Banquete Bulldogs

Odem has gone 8-1 against Banquete recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Owls will venture away from home to take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Odem took a loss when they played away from home on October 10th, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Monte Alto 57-6. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 23 points or more this season.

It was another big night for John Hinojosa, who rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 103 rushing yards. Martin Castillo was another key rusher, rushing for 67 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Banquete). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 50-7 win over Monte Alto. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Blue Devil: they've now won six in a row.

Banquete's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-7. As for Odem, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Everything went Odem's way against Banquete in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as Odem made off with a 28-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
