Colony extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-6 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wasilla Warriors. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by just one run.
Cody Otto stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run. Hayden Sherman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Wasilla, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.
On Wasilla's side, Ramon Guzman was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Guzman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Delcour, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Bridger Berta, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Colony will venture away from home to challenge South Anchorage at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Wasilla, they will head out to take on Palmer at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Moose will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
