Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Bishop Verot's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Bishop Verot owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They came out on top against the Southwest Florida Christian King by a score of 4-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-3 back in March.

The result came thanks to Payton Breadmore's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jaelyn Riley was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-4. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Blexrud, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Bishop Verot has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Southwest Florida Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Coming up, Bishop Verot is taking a road trip to square off against Riverview Sarasota at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwest Florida Christian, they will take on Master's Academy in a tournament on Friday. The King's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season.
