Soccer Game Preview: Tampa Catholic vs. Academy of the Holy Names

Tampa Catholic is 2-8 against Academy of the Holy Names since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Tampa Catholic Crusaders will take on the Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.

Tampa Catholic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 6-1 margin over Tarpon Springs. The Crusaders' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last five games.

They hit Tarpon Springs with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Nina Clauberg (2), Kaylie Glover (2), and Mia Sanchez (2).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Academy of the Holy Names). Their defense stepped up to hand Winthrop College Prep Academy a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Jaguars who have now won four matches in a row.

Academy of the Holy Names is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 31 goals over those six games. As for Tampa Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 7-11-1.

Tampa Catholic came up short against Academy of the Holy Names when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 2-0. Can Tampa Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
