Baseball Recap: York Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

York proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 16) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Wheaton-Warrenville South Tigers 8-7. Winning may never get old, but the Dukes sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Danny Raible looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Austin Grzywa, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Chael, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

York pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Wheaton-Warrenville South, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Coming up, York will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Downers Grove South at 10:00 a.m. As for Wheaton-Warrenville South, they will welcome Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The match will give the Tigers their first taste of in-conference action this season.
