Softball Recap: Shorecrest Prep Wins Going Away Against Canterbury

With a playoff win on the line, Shorecrest Prep rose to the challenge on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Canterbury Crusaders with a sharp 8-2 win. Considering the Chargers have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Samantha Beltran was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Paige Conroy was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bobbie Strus, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Shorecrest Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .419 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Shorecrest Prep has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Canterbury, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

As of now, neither Shorecrest Prep nor Canterbury have any future games scheduled.
