Baseball Recap: Orono Gets the Win

The Orono Spartans were able to grind out a solid victory over the St. Francis Fighting Saints on Wednesday, taking the game 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Chaz Brookins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Orono's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gavin McGuirk, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Orono now has a winning record of 6-5. As for St. Francis, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.

Looking ahead, Orono will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Chaska at 4:30 p.m. As for St. Francis, they will head out on the road to take on North Branch at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
