Baseball Game Preview: La Jolla Vikings vs. Morse Tigers

The La Jolla Vikings will take on the Morse Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games La Jolla has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

If La Jolla beats Morse with three runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Vikings beat San Diego on Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Cavers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

La Jolla's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hank Hansen, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Morse was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Clairemont.

Christian Fernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Morse: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Moises Davison, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Morse's loss dropped their record down to 5-13-1. As for La Jolla, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

La Jolla beat Morse 9-4 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
