Baseball Game Preview: Germantown Mavericks vs. West Jones Mustangs

The Germantown Mavericks are taking a road trip to challenge the West Jones Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Germantown had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Terry on Monday. The Mavericks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 12-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

Germantown got a great performance from Brayden Simpson as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Simpson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Germantown let Will Sheehan and John Riley North run wild. Sheehan scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while North went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Sheehan is becoming a predictor of Germantown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 10-13 when he doesn't). Brayden Quick was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Germantown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Terry only posted an OBP of .238.

Meanwhile, West Jones came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Wildcats 12-1.

Germantown now has a winning record of 14-13. As for West Jones, their record now sits at 13-9.

Germantown skirted past West Jones 2-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
