Baseball Recap: Laughlin Sets Scoring Season-High Against Beaver Dam

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Laughlin). They blew past the Beaver Dam Diamondback 19-9 on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-1 on Tuesday.

Ayden Whitton was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of Laughlin's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't). Whitton was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Laughlin got a massive performance out of Anthony Celli-Brookins, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Celli-Brookins has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-8 otherwise. Brayden Whitton was another key player, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4.

Laughlin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Laughlin's victory bumped their record up to 2-9. As for Beaver Dam, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laughlin will head out to square off against White Pine at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Beaver Dam, they will square off against Round Mountain at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
