Baseball Game Preview: Santa Rosa Warriors vs. Lyford Bulldogs

Santa Rosa is 0-10 against Lyford since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Warriors will square off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Santa Rosa has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Santa Rosa fell victim to Raymondville and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Bearkats, falling 14-0. The Warriors' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Meanwhile, Lyford got the win against Rio Hondo on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-3. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Diego Medina was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Medina was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gael Silva, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jacob Reyna, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Lyford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Lyford is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Santa Rosa, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
