Baseball Game Preview: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Monte Vista Monarchs

For the second straight game, Mount Miguel will face off against Monte Vista. The Matadors will venture away from home to face off against the Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Miguel has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with eight straight defeats, while Monte Vista will come in with three straight victories.

Mount Miguel fell victim to Monte Vista and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Monarchs. That's two games in a row now that the Matadors have lost by exactly ten runs.

For Monte Vista's part, the result came thanks to Adrian Gutierrez's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks. Gutierrez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Monarchs are 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-15 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Monte Vista let Xavier Wilson and Damian Ordaz run wild. Wilson went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Ordaz went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Monte Vista is undefeated when Ordaz posts two or more runs, but 2-17 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Vasquez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Monte Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Mount Miguel's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Monte Vista, their win bumped their record up to 7-17.
