Baseball Recap: Madera South Triumphs

While Madera South's win against Caruthers wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Stallions had just enough and edged out the Blue Raiders 11-10. The victory continues a trend for the Stallions in their matchups with the Blue Raiders: they've now won three in a row.

Victor Mercado made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Mercado wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Josiah Ortiz, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Ortiz has become a key player for Madera South: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-7 otherwise. Erick Soza was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Madera South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caruthers only posted a batting average of .321.

Madera South's record is now 9-7. As for Caruthers, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Madera South will welcome Riverdale at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Caruthers, they will face off against Fowler at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders are facing the Redcats at the right time seeing as the Redcats are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
