Preview: Wichita County Indians vs. Lyndon Tigers
The Wichita County Indians are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Lyndon Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on November 25th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wichita County extended their postseason success on Friday against Ell-Saline. They blew past the Cardinals, posting a 64-28 win on the road.
Wichita County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wyatt Gardner out in front who rushed for 230 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 89 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Khris Hermosillo, who rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Wichita County's defense and their seven sacks. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Meanwhile, Lyndon put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 52-6 victory over Cair Paravel on the road. That's two games straight that Lyndon has won by exactly 46 points.
Lyndon had a senior duo take command as Tanner Heckel rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries and Jalen Massey gained 162 total yards and four touchdowns. Heckel is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played.
Their wins bumped Wichita County to 12-0 and Ell-Saline to 10-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Wichita County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 310.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lyndon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 289.2 per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
