Baseball Recap: Seymour Indians vs. Liberty Eagles
Seymour extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They lost 8-2 to the Liberty Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 back in March.
Blake Schwartz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Nolan Sparks was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
As for Liberty, their record is now 7-4. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
On Liberty's side, Reed Sparrow made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Sparrow has become a key player for Liberty: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Sparrow was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Sims, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
Coming up, Seymour will head out on the road to face off against Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.7 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Liberty, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Camp Point Central at 10:00 a.m.
