Softball Recap: Lincoln Wins Going Away Against West

Lincoln never got on the board in their matchup last Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against West on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Wolfpack with a sharp 13-3 victory. Considering the Trojans have won five matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Cassidy Cabanig tossed a big game, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mallory Wagner and Alicia Ott did most of the damage at the plate: Wagner scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Ott scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Wagner a new career-high. Xeanna Samifua was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Lincoln kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lincoln moved to 7-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for West, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Lincoln will take on Chavez in a tournament on Friday. As for West, they will challenge Lodi at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Flames will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Wolfpack surely won't give up without a fight.
