Basketball Preview: Donovan Wildcats vs. South Newton Rebels

The Donovan Wildcats will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the South Newton Rebels at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Even though Donovan has not done well against the Bearcats recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Donovan took down the Bearcats 68-49.

Griffen Walters continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ty Miller, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.

Meanwhile, South Newton beat the Tigers 44-34 on Saturday. That ten point margin sets a new team best for South Newton this season.

South Newton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chayse Stillabower out in front who scored 11 points along with five steals. Stillabower is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Armstrong, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.

Donovan is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-14 record this season. As for South Newton, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-12.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Donovan have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like South Newton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Donovan was taken down by the Rebels 66-30 in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Will Donovan have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
