Baseball Recap: West Rusk Triumphs

West Rusk came out on top against Gladewater on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Raiders walked away with a 7-2 win over the Bears. This was a revenge game for the Raiders: when they faced off against the Bears back in March, they had to take a 4-3 defeat.

Rhett Jackson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Caiden Landon and Gunner Harp did most of the damage at the plate: Landon went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Harp went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Harp is becoming a predictor of West Rusk's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 9-14 when he doesn't).

The victory made it two in a row for West Rusk and bumps their season record up to 13-16. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Gladewater, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-9 record.

As of now, neither West Rusk nor the Bears have any future games scheduled.
