Preview: Los Fresnos Falcons vs. Edinburg Bobcats
Los Fresnos is 0-7 against Edinburg since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Los Fresnos Falcons will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Edinburg Bobcats at 12:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Los Fresnos waltzed into their matchup Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They were the clear victor by a 57-36 margin over Carroll.
Meanwhile, Edinburg waltzed into their matchup Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat San Benito 65-35 at home. With Edinburg ahead 38-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Edinburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kimora Fagan led the charge by scoring 30 points along with four steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Fagan has scored at least 25% of Edinburg's points. Emily Carranco was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with six steals.
Los Fresnos is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season. As for Edinburg, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Los Fresnos ended up a good deal behind Edinburg when the teams last played back in February, losing 63-49. Can Los Fresnos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
