Softball Recap: Prout Wins High-Profile Contest Against Smithfield

Prout faced Smithfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Crusaders never let the Sentinels get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Sentinels recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to Megan Gardiner's shutout, as she gave up just three hits.

At the plate, Prout saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rachel Dias, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Prout's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Smithfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 11-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Prout will venture away from home to challenge Cumberland at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Smithfield, they will square off against La Salle Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Sentinels' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
