Basketball Recap: Tanner Hebblethwaite's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Paxton over Maywood/Hayes Center

Paxton easily dispatched Leyton last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Paxton Tigers fell just short of the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves by a score of 53-50 on Friday. The Tigers were up 18-4 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tanner Hebblethwaite, who posted 15 points. Hebblethwaite has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasper Brewster, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Maywood/Hayes Center's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Charlie Callis, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Callis a new career-high in steals (four). Another player making a difference was Jaxson Anders, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds.

Paxton's record now sits at 7-3. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Paxton will venture away from home to take on Creek Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they will head out to face off against Maxwell at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Maywood/Hayes Center is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season.
