Baseball Game Preview: Spruce Timberwolves vs. Wilson Wildcats

The Spruce Timberwolves will head out to take on the Wilson Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Spruce has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with five straight defeats, while Wilson will come in with eight straight victories.

Spruce fell victim to Adams and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 18-0 to the Cougars.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wilson). They blew past Samuell 16-1 on Saturday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Joe Cabrera Loera made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Cabrera Loera was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Daniel Gonzalez was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Kennedy Shoulders was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2.

Wilson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .760. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Wilson pushed their record up to 13-4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Spruce, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
