Softball Recap: First Academy Has No Trouble Against Legacy Charter

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but First Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. Everything went their way against Legacy Charter as First Academy made off with a 19-10 win. First Academy's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Rebecca Barnett made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over nine innings while giving up ten earned runs off ten hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6.8 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off three home runs, five runs, and seven RBI while going 4-for-5. Those home runs marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Madi Myers was incredible, scoring five runs while going 3-for-5. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Ashlyn Neiford also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

First Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .489. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Legacy Charter only posted a batting average of .182.

First Academy moved to 2-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Legacy Charter, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 3-2.

First Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Altamonte Christian at 4:30 p.m. on March 18th. As for Legacy Charter, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-5 loss against Lake Buena Vista on the 11th.
