Vel Phillips Memorial hasn't had much luck against Verona recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Vel Phillips Memorial earned a 6-3 victory over Monona Grove. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Silver Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Verona sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Janesville Parker on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Vikings since May 28, 2021.

Vel Phillips Memorial pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Verona, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.
