Baseball Recap: Southwood Takes a Loss

Southwood extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Caston Comets. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Comets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Southwood saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Whybrew, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Coan Holloway was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Caston, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

On Caston's side, the team relied heavily on Logan Mollenkopf, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Mollenkopf a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gavin Mollenkopf, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Southwood didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-0 defeat against Northwestern on the 30th. As for Caston, they have also already played their next game, a 5-4 win against Lewis Cass on the 1st.
