Baseball Recap: Hammond Central Wolves vs. Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Hawks

Hammond Central extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 9-18-1 in the process. They lost 13-5 to the Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 back in April.

Hammond Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dashaun Turner, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. D'Angelo Pina also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Hammond Academy of Science & Tech, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by eight runs or more this season.

On Hammond Academy of Science & Tech's side, Boudi Sullivan and Noah Michniewicz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sullivan tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Michniewicz struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. What's more, Sullivan posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At bat, Sullivan got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Michniewicz got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and two runs. Michniewicz has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech got a massive performance out of Austin McKimmy, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave McKimmy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camden Foster, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Hammond Central will look to defend their home field on Monday against Hammond Bishop Noll at 4:45 p.m. As for Hammond Academy of Science & Tech, they will challenge Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
