Basketball Recap: Piedmont Academy's Winning Streak Snapped at 11 Games

It was a good run, but Piedmont Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Stratford Academy Eagles by a score of 70-68. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 62-55.

Piedmont Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sarah Ellen Stroud, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 29 points in addition to five assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave Stroud a new career-high in points. Marissa Holder was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Piedmont Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Piedmont Academy's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 19-4. As for Stratford Academy, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Piedmont Academy and Stratford Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. Piedmont Academy (ranked 67th) will meet Windsor Academy (ranked 428th) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Piedmont Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64 points per game this season. Similarly, Stratford Academy will face off against Mount de Sales Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 214 places (54 vs. 268).
