Softball Game Preview: Potomac School Panthers vs. Fredericksburg Christian Eagles

Potomac School has won six straight games at home, while Fredericksburg Christian has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Panthers will host the Eagles at 4:15 p.m. Potomac School's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Fredericksburg Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Wednesday, Potomac School got the win against Flint Hill by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Fredericksburg Christian sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Miller School of Albemarle on Tuesday.

Scarlett Whittaker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rylie Johnson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two triples, and three runs. That's the most triples she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Fredericksburg Christian is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Potomac School, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.

Everything went Potomac School's way against Fredericksburg Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Potomac School made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
