Football Game Preview: Roswell vs. Artesia

Artesia may have come out ahead in their last match, but they shouldn't get too cocky given who is up next. They hope to keep the momentum going despite having enjoyed some extra time before their next match against Roswell at 7:00 PM on Friday. If you head out to watch the game, expect to stay the whole 48 minutes: the MaxPreps rankings predict a close match.

Artesia put the finishing touches on their 3rd blowout victory of the season two weeks ago. They steamrollered Ruidoso 56-13. Junior Clay Houghtaling, who passed for 238 yards and 4 touchdowns, was a major factor in Artesia's success. If you haven't heard Houghtaling's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past five games.

Meanwhile, Roswell might be getting used to good results now that the team has five wins in a row. They were able to grind out a solid victory over Piedra Vista last Friday, winning 26-14.

Artesia simply couldn't be stopped the last time the two teams met, as they easily beat Roswell 42-7. Since neither squad is a stranger to landslide victories this season, you'd better bet it will be hard-fought showdown.
