Basketball Recap: Lukas Fontasiewicz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Admiral Farragut over Cardinal Mooney

Admiral Farragut was the 49-39 winner over Cardinal Mooney when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The game between the Admiral Farragut BlueJackets and the Cardinal Mooney Cougars didn't end well, with the Admiral Farragut BlueJackets falling 66-49. While losing is never fun, the BlueJackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Cougars are ranked 140th).

Several BlueJackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lukas Fontasiewicz, who posted ten points along with six assists and three steals. Fontasiewicz is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last nine games he's played. Hayden Hundt was another key player, going 5 for 11 en route to 15 points.

Even though they lost, Admiral Farragut smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matchups.

Cardinal Mooney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam Reindel led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Reindel has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Leron Dues, who went 7 of 10 to rack up 16 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Admiral Farragut's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Cardinal Mooney, their victory bumped their record up to 21-2.

Admiral Farragut didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-39 loss against IMG Academy Black on the 29th. As for Cardinal Mooney, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-56 win against Riverview Sarasota on the 29th.
