Softball Game Preview: Clear Fork Colts vs. Shelby Whippets

The Clear Fork Colts are taking a road trip to square off against the Shelby Whippets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

River Valley hit Clear Fork with a six-run third inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Colts took a 14-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. The Colts' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Shelby, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 17-13 win over Mapleton on Friday.

Shelby let Karlie Walp and Braylee Sturts run wild. Walp went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI, while Sturts went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Sturts has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Young, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Shelby lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Clear Fork's defeat dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Shelby, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-10.

Clear Fork took their win against Shelby in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Colts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Whippets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
