Baseball Recap: Yough Comes Up Short

Yough extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Belle Vernon Leopards. The game marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

As for Belle Vernon, they pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Belle Vernon's part, Braden Andrews tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Cole Matusik was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Bergman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Yough wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Deer Lakes on the 5th. As for Belle Vernon, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-2 win against West Mifflin on the 5th.
