Softball Recap: Brighton Bengals vs. Maple Mountain Golden Eagles
After flying high against Highland last Thursday, Brighton came back down to earth. Brighton lost 16-3 to the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bengals of the 12-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2018.
Olivia Issowits made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cynthia Knowlton, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Even though they lost, Brighton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Brighton now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Maple Mountain, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brighton will challenge Alta at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brighton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Alta has averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Maple Mountain, they will head out on the road to take on Cedar Valley at 3:30 p.m. on the 8th.
