Softball Game Preview: Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes vs. DuQuoin Indians

The Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes will head out on the road to face off against the DuQuoin Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. DuQuoin took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Zeigler-Royalton, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Zeigler-Royalton turned things around against Vienna on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 5-2.

Addison Furlow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mayti House, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Furlow-Hampton, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Zeigler-Royalton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, DuQuoin came up short against Carlyle on Wednesday and fell 9-4. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

DuQuoin's loss dropped their record down to 4-21. As for Zeigler-Royalton, their victory bumped their record up to 11-16.

Zeigler-Royalton was able to grind out a solid win over DuQuoin when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 14-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tornadoes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
