Softball Game Preview: Rogers Rams vs. Spanaway Lake Sentinels

Rogers has gone a perfect 6-0 against Spanaway Lake recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rams will host the Sentinels at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rogers has six straight victories, Spanaway Lake has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Rogers needed a bit of extra time to put away Graham-Kapowsin. They skirted past the Eagles 7-6. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by just one run.

Sierra Murray was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over nine innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Walling, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run. Madison Adiar was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-5.

Meanwhile, Spanaway Lake came up short against South Kitsap on Wednesday, falling 27-4.

Rogers pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Spanaway Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Rogers took their win against Spanaway Lake in their previous meeting back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Sentinels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
