Softball Recap: Jefferson Forest Comes Up Short

After flying high against Liberty Christian on Friday, Jefferson Forest came back down to earth. The Cavaliers fell 6-1 to the Amherst County Lancers on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-7 back in April.

Kimber Spence spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ashleigh Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Emma Apperson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Jefferson Forest's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Amherst County, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Jefferson Forest is set to face off against their familiar foe Glass at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Amherst County will take on rival Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on the 15th.
