The Ventura Cougars will take on the Lockport Porters in a tournament on Wednesday. Ventura's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Lockport's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Ventura picked up another tournament win on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Grant Community as Ventura made off with a 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Liam Stohlman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Ventura is 3-0-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Wylan Nelson, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Ventura is 4-1 when Nelson posts two or more runs, but 3-4-1 otherwise. Carter Kimble was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Ventura lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Lockport entered their tilt with George Washington on Tuesday with four consecutive wins dating back to last season, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Porters have posted since May 6, 2024.
Matt Fox looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, David Kundrat was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Joey DalPonte, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Ventura is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Lockport pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
