Basketball Preview: Lake Wales Highlanders vs. Lake Region Thunder

Lake Wales is 6-1 against the Thunder since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Lake Wales Highlanders' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Lake Region Thunder at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Lake Wales focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Saturday.

On Saturday, Lake Wales ended up a good deal behind the Knights and lost 64-46. While losing is never fun, Lake Wales can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Knights are ranked 77th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Samauri Wilson, who scored ten points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Ossinac, who scored seven points along with seven assists and two steals.

Meanwhile, Lake Region fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Highlanders on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 66-59 to the Highlanders. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Lake Wales has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. Lake Region's record is now 13-12.

Everything went Lake Wales' way against the Thunder when the teams last played back in February of 2021 as the Highlanders made off with a 71-48 win. With Lake Wales ahead 40-17 at the half, the match was all but over already.
